Las Americas Restaurant - Ft. Smith: Reviews & Ratings
This is a great restaurant that specializes in South American cuisine to include Mexican, Peruvian, and Nicaraguan cuisines. The service was good and food was excellent. I really enjoyed the Plantains and Cerdo Adobado (marinated pork). I highly recommend this restaurant.
This was my first time in and I really enjoyed everything I ate (2 different pupusa, corn tamale, and this chicken dish). I will definitely be back to try some Yuca, plantain, and various more traditional hispanic dishes. It was a refreshing change from the barrage of TexMex in the area. The salsa wasn't my favorite because it was pretty watery. But, everything else was perfect Ceiling tiles could use some upkeep (only reason I knocked off one star for atmosphere) but everyone was friendly/attentive and things were clean.
Not only is the food amazing here, so is the service! Everyone in the restaurant greeted us when we came in and we were seated within seconds. Our server was super friendly and attentive. Got our orders in and our food out within minutes. Came back for refills and just to see if we needed anything else every 15 min or so. The food was so good! Portion and price are very reasonable. We ordered Salvadorian style chicken tamales, pork and cheese pupusas, cheese and jalapeño pupusas, and Santa Fe burrito. Chips and salsa are complimentary as well!
Las Americas has delicious food! And their charro beans (like pinto beans) are the best I have ever had! Their mole is also the best I have ever had. It is dark brown. They do have the worst salsa in Fort Smith. It is watery.
I stopped by because me and the lady were in the mood for pupusas and while taking a look at the menu I realized the concept of the restaurant and we just had to try out full entrees! It did not disappoint. The food was amazing and the service was great. They have a variety of Latin America items ranging from Mexican to Venezuelan.. THE PUPUSAS WERE TOP NOTCH. And boy do they know how to cook steak.. Anytime we’re in the Fort smith area I’ll definitely be finding my way back to expand my Latin American palate.
Try some south of the border food! If you are thinking Mexico, you are not thinking far enough south of the border. How about trying meals based on recipes from El Salvador and Nicaragua. And, they do have Mexican food! The menu is intimidating! If you are there for the first time, really look the menu over and go for something new. Don’t just go for the familiar: tacos, enchiladas etc. It is a small restaurant that appears to be previously a Wendy’s or some fast food joint of that type. They do have quite a fair size dining area but, peak hours are very busy! They serve complementary chips and salsa. The appetizer selection large as is their beverage menu. They have many different imported non-alcoholic beverages along with some traditional south of the border drinks, some of which they blend up in house. We tried the Nicaraguan portion of the menu: Lomo Saltado and Gallo Pinto. The Lomo Saltado is sliced carne asada, cooked in a delicious red sauce with red onions, green peppers and French fries. It is fantastic and I would describe it as comfort food. When you start eating you won’t stop until your plate is clean. The sauce is what makes this dish. A perfectly seasoned tomato based sauce that will have you using the rice to soak up any that is left over. You won’t want to leave any on your plate. The Gallo Pinto is also very good. It is a generous portion of carne asada with beans and rice and fried plantains. Tender steak cooked perfectly, and caramelized plantains. This ain’t Taco Bell, so be patient. Some of these dishes take a little while to prepare. If you are looking for other Mexican restaurants in the area, check out my reviews in my collection "Jalapeno Highway" on Yelp. I've probably been there.
We visited both locations in a week’s time. We enjoyed the taco Tuesday special and the Chorizo cheese dip. Good food, good prices, and good service.

Specializing in a rich tapestry of South American flavors, this restaurant proudly presents Mexican, Peruvian, Nicaraguan, Salvadorian, and Venezuelan dishes, making it a vibrant melting pot for those craving genuine Hispanic cuisine beyond the usual Tex-Mex fare.
What immediately stands out at Las Americas is their dedication to traditional dishes prepared with care and authenticity. The plantains, perfectly caramelized, offer a sweet and savory balance that complements the robust Cerdo Adobado—marinated pork bursting with deep, smoky flavor. For lovers of handmade specialties, the pupusas come highly recommended—whether pork and cheese or cheese and jalapeño, these Salvadorian stuffed corn tortillas are consistently described as top-notch. The tamales, both chicken and corn varieties, showcase a delicate texture and rich seasoning, highlighting the kitchen’s expert grasp of Latin American cooking techniques.
Service here elevates the entire experience. From the moment you walk in, the welcoming atmosphere is underscored by attentive, friendly staff who deliver prompt and courteous care without intrusion. This hospitality, paired with the generous portions and reasonable pricing, makes dining here both delightful and accessible.
While the complimentary chips and salsa are a nice touch, feedback suggests that the salsa could benefit from a thicker, more flavorful consistency to match the excellence of the main dishes. Ambience-wise, modest improvements like updated ceiling tiles could help enhance an already clean and comfortable environment, but nothing detracts significantly from the overall appeal.
Signature highlights such as the charro beans and the dark brown mole stand out for their depth of flavor and authentic preparation—elements that speak to the kitchen’s commitment to preserving traditional tastes. Whether you are expanding your Latin American palate or simply in search of a reliable spot to enjoy vibrant, home-style cooking, Las Americas Restaurant delivers a fulfilling and memorable dining journey that beckons repeat visits.
